Canyoning Guide for the Rhône-Alpes Region

A passion turned into a career: a spirit of adventure dedicated to your safety.

Founded in 2024 by Sylvain, CANRIV is your Rhône-Alpes canyoning guide, specializing in leading tours in Annecy, Chambéry, Aix-les-Bains, Grenoble, Lyon, and the Ain department.

And it’s me, Sylvain, who’s going to tell you this wonderful story!

It all started quite simply: I spent a lot of time outdoors… and had very little desire to stay inside. I’ve been doing outdoor activities—canyoning, kayaking, rafting, caving—since I was a little kid. Suffice it to say that whitewater, ropes, and rocks are practically part of the family!

After more than 10 years of exploring canyons in the Rhône-Alpes region and throughout France and Europe, I’ve had the chance to explore a wide variety of routes—some that were a lot of fun, some that were very challenging… and a few where you definitely had to love the thrill. It was this experience that inspired me to create Canyons et Rivières, or CANRIV.

Why this region in particular? Because it’s home to some of the most beautiful canyons I’ve ever hiked through! Believe me, they’re totally worth it:

  • A massive playground with plenty of streams and waterfalls galore!
  • A wonderful variety of trails, perfect for beginners and thrill-seekers alike.
  • Landscapes that make you forget you're just 30 minutes from the city (turquoise waters—what could be more beautiful?).

Creating CANRIV means choosing to work in a region I know like the back of my hand… and which I consider (very objectively, of course) to be one of the best canyoning spots in France!

A huge playground

  • Exceptional variety: From “
” fun introductory trails to “
    ” challenging downhill runs.
  • Wild Landscapes: Breathtaking natural scenery straight out of *
    * in the heart of the Alps.
  • Flexibility: Careful selection of the canyon
, based on the weather and your skill level.

Sylvain LOZACH

Your Rhône-Alpes canyoning guide, state-certified

Behind CANRIV is, above all, one person who takes great pleasure in guiding you out in the field. And who, at the same time, makes sure everything goes smoothly—from your first step into the water to your final rappel.

Hiring a certified Rhône-Alpes canyoning guide ensures that your outing will be led by a state-certified professional.

Certification: DEJEPS certification with a specialization in canyoning. Experience: Over 10 years in outdoor activities (in France and Europe).

But beyond the certifications, the idea is simple: to help you feel at ease right away. Whether you’re here for your first time (thinking, “I’m not really sure if I’m going to do this”) or looking for a little adrenaline rush, the approach remains the same:

  • Explain everything clearly before and during the canyon hike
  • Ensure safety at every stage (jumping, rappelling, swimming)
  • And most importantly… keep smiling (even when the water is super cold!)

There's no pressure here: everyone moves at their own pace, with just the right amount of challenge to leave feeling a great sense of satisfaction.

Our Values and Commitments

Safety and the Environment at the Heart of Our Runs

We like to have fun, yes. But we do so with the utmost caution.

Security

  • Technical equipment that complies with CE standards (helmets, harnesses, carabiners, ropes)
  • The use of PPE that is inspected and replaced on a regular basis
  • A comprehensive safety briefing before each run
  • Routes tailored to the group's skill level and conditions (water flow, weather)
  • Compliance with staff-to-student ratios

In short: You enjoy yourself; we'll take care of the rest.

Environmental Responsibility

Canyoning takes place in incredibly unspoiled areas. The idea is to keep them that way.

  • Raising Awareness of Local Flora and Fauna
  • Strict compliance with regulations and prefectural decrees
  • Environmental impact minimized as much as possible
  • Promoting responsible canyoning practices

Because jumping into a pool is great. Finding it still intact the following year… that’s even better!

vibrate with canriv

Why do we know the region better than (almost) everyone else?

At CANRIV, At CANRIV, your Rhône-Alpes canyoning guide isn’t just discovering the canyons for the first time alongside you. We’re often nestled among some really cool vertical walls—even when we’re not on canyoning trips. Here are three reasons why:

  • Identify conditions such as water flow, weather, and accessibility.
  • Adjust the routes according to the season.
  • Check the routes regularly.

This year-round presence in the field makes one essential thing possible: offering outings that are truly tailored to the current conditions, rather than “catalog-style” itineraries.

In practical terms, what does this mean for you?

  • The right canyon at the right time!
  • Optimal conditions on the big day.
  • A smoother, more enjoyable ride… and safer.
