Why choose Grenoble for canyoning?

Welcome to one of France’s top destinations for canyoning—and we’re not just saying that. Since the Vercors literally begins right around the corner, you certainly won’t be exploring any lackluster gorges. Have you taken the time to visit Grenoble? Now it’s time for some canyoning! Just 20 minutes away lie the stunning canyons carved into the limestone of the Vercors. A treat for the eyes: crystal-clear water and alpine landscapes that would make an albino salmon pale in comparison.

Combining water hiking and thrills, you’re off on an exhilarating adventure among the waterfalls. Why choose this setting in the heart of the Vercors?

Exceptionally close to Grenoble—just a 20- to 30-minute drive. Spectacular limestone gorges with vertigo-inducing cliffs. Cool, crystal-clear water that’s especially delightful and refreshing in the summer. The untamed beauty of the Vercors and its unique atmosphere, where rock, moss, and waterfalls come together.

Come explore some steep-walled gorges as we follow the riverbed together! Featuring:

Canyons that are easily accessible from Grenoble—no long hikes to get there. Routes for all skill levels, from “I’ll give it a try, but I’m a little scared” to “Move over—I’m looking for 28-meter rappels.” A wide variety of activities: natural slides, jumps into pools, rappelling, and zip lines.

Our favorite routes around Grenoble!

Yes, it's true—we have our favorite canyons. The ones that make us even more eager to get up in the morning with one thing on our minds: seeing you tackle the obstacles with a big smile on your face.

Versoud Canyon

A hidden gem just outside Grenoble. With its spectacular rocky walls and pools of incredible colors, it’s impossible to miss. Combining vertical cliffs and water crossings, it’s the perfect place for an adventure! Why do we love it so much?

Suitable for ages 8 and up, perfect for a first family sports experience. Dives of up to 12 meters into beautiful pools—always optional. A short, intense course with no downtime. Just 20 minutes from Grenoble—an adventure right on your doorstep.

Ecouges Canyon

Don’t let its unassuming name fool you. The Ecouges Canyon is one of the most iconic canyons in the Grenoble region and a top destination for canyoning in Isère. Carved out of remarkable limestone, it features a series of spectacular waterfalls, technical rappels, and pools of rare beauty. Why do we love it so much?

Abseils of up to 28 meters down steep, enclosed waterfalls—for those who are up for a challenge. Daring jumps into stunning pools—always optional. Natural slides carved into the rock. Just 30 minutes from Grenoble and 1 hour and 30 minutes from Lyon. A canyon that’s well worth the price, from the first obstacle to the last.

Upper Furon Canyon

Even lifelong residents of Grenoble have yet to (re)discover it. It’s impossible to overlook when talking about canyoning near Grenoble: Furon Haut is the must-visit canyon, just 15 minutes from the city and 1 hour from Lyon, located above Sassenage in the Vercors Massif. It’s the most popular canyon in Isère, and it’s easy to see why. Why do we love it so much?

Jumps of up to 9 meters—still optional. Natural slides and a zip line for a variety of thrills. Short rappels accessible even to beginners. The “Express” section at the end of the course to finish the canyoning experience on a high note. Water flow regulated by the Engins Dam, making the canyon navigable even during dry periods. Just 15 minutes from Grenoble and 1 hour from Lyon.

Questions about our canyoning trips

We'll answer all your questions

The Vercors Massif is home to the best canyoning spots around Grenoble. The Versoud Canyon, the Ecouges Canyon, and the Furon Haut Canyon are our three favorite routes in the area. Three different atmospheres, three levels of difficulty, but one thing in common: breathtaking scenery just 20 minutes from the city.

Yes, thanks to the Versoud canyon, which is open to participants ages 8 and up, and the Furon Haut canyon, which is open to participants ages 12 and up. The Ecouges canyon is more suited to experienced participants, with its level 3/4 difficulty. In any case, our state-certified instructors tailor their guidance to the group’s skill level.

Absolutely. Le Furon Haut is an hour from Lyon, and Les Ecouges and Le Versoud are an hour and a half away. It’s a full day of adventure in the Vercors without having to go away for the weekend. Canyoning in the Vercors from Lyon is perfect for a beautiful day trip.

Allow between 3 and 5 hours in total, depending on the canyon you choose, including gear, the approach hike, the descent, and packing up. The Furon Haut is designed for a half-day trip, while the Ecouges require a little more time and effort.

The season generally runs from April to October. The Furon Haut has a water flow regulated by the Engins Dam, making it navigable even during dry periods. For the other canyons, our instructors check the conditions before each outing.
