Why choose Chambéry for canyoning?

Welcome to one of the best spots in Savoie for canyoning—and we’re not just saying that. Since the Bauges and the Chartreuse mountains literally begin right at the end of the road, you certainly won’t be exploring any dull gorges. Did you take the time to visit the Castle of the Dukes of Savoie? Now it’s time for some canyoning! Just 30 minutes away lie the magnificent canyons carved into the limestone. A treat for the eyes: crystal-clear water and alpine landscapes that would make an albino salmon pale in comparison.

Combining water hiking with thrills, you’re off on an exhilarating adventure among the waterfalls. Why choose this setting in the heart of the Bauges and the Chartreuse?

An ideal location between the Bauges and Chartreuse mountain ranges, with two exceptional playgrounds right at your doorstep. Crisp, refreshing water—particularly delightful and welcome in the middle of August. The untamed beauty of the surroundings and the pleasant scents of the forest floor, amid moss, rocks, and waterfalls.

Come explore some steep-walled gorges as we follow the riverbed together! Featuring:

Canyons that are easily accessible from Chambéry—no long hikes to get there. Routes for all skill levels, from “I’ll give it a try, but I’m a little scared” to “Move over—I’m looking for challenging rappels under waterfalls.” A wide variety of activities: sliding down natural rock faces, jumping into pools, and rappelling.

Our favorite routes around Chambéry!

Yes, it's true—we have our favorite canyons. The ones that make us even more eager to get up in the morning with one thing on our minds: seeing you tackle the obstacles with a big smile on your face.

Grenant Canyon

We head to the Chartreuse for some insane canyoning in the middle of the forest. What a treat! It’s got it all: rappelling under waterfalls, jumps, pools… All set against a backdrop of rock and lush greenery along the Grenant torrent. Perfect if you love wild scenery and an atmosphere that makes you forget the outside world in two minutes flat. You’ll love this canyon just as much as we do, thanks to:

It’s fun and suitable for families with children ages 10 and up. Abseiling under waterfalls in a spectacular setting. Frequent jumps, but none are mandatory. A smooth and varied course from start to finish. Just 30 minutes from Chambéry.

Devil's Bridge Canyon

Don’t let the slightly scary name of this canyon—located in the Bauges region, about thirty kilometers from Chambéry—fool you. The rugged, rocky setting—which literally captivates young and old alike—makes you feel miles away from your everyday worries. Short but intense, varied, and nonstop: it’s the perfect canyon to take things up a notch without committing to a 6-hour day. Why do we love it so much?

Jumps of up to 10 meters—still optional. The natural slide known as “La Torpille”—the moment everyone’s been waiting for. Deep, enclosed pools everywhere for splashing around in the crystal-clear water. A 12-meter abseil, supervised and accessible. A varied course with no downtime. A wild and exotic natural setting.

Ternèze Canyon

Do you dream of trying abseiling? Are you visiting the Chambéry area with your family and looking for an activity that everyone will enjoy? We can’t wait to show you this super-accessible—and very short—canyon! It’s all about a gentle, relaxing experience in a fantastic setting in the heart of the Bauges: that’s what makes it so special.

Natural slides up to 8 meters long—fun and accessible. Jumps of up to 7 meters—always optional. The Natural Siphon section is the course’s little surprise. A fun course that thrills young and old alike. A very pleasant atmosphere in the woods where calm reigns (or not, until the first splash).
